The Observation Of Participatory Design In Taiwan And Its Enlightenment

With the development of civil construction, we need to think about how to realize thesocial values of architecture, such as how to deal with the demand of people. The traditionalelite design methods and tools has certain disadvantages, such as the design itself easilyignores the users’ requirements, the relationship between human and environment is ruptured;Can’t consider the unequal of power affect the equality and open of design; People can’t dosomething on the improvement of the environment by themselves.So participatory design method was proposed to alleviate these problems, we shouldreturn to the essence of design, find a way to communicate with users and to eliminate thedistance between the people and the designer. The designers should try to do the work withpeople, making the sense of place. That could make good relationship with community.Taiwan has the similar background with mainland. The participatory design in Taiwan ismature, so it has relatively high reference value.The article introduces the basic theory of participatory of application in the field ofarchitecture design in Taiwan, such as architectural design and community planning. Firstly,make the case study on the whole process of participatory design. Secondly, conclude theoperation method of workshop through two projects of community planning. Thirdly,summary the participatory design strategy of shaping the sense of place and the ability ofparticipation. Finally, put forward suggestions for the mainland to carry out the participatorydesign.
