The node of the column base is an important factor on the capacity of the steel structure. However, most previous studies were mainly focused on the mechanical behavior of the upper part of the structure. There is a lack of information for the steel column base, especifically for the resisitence behavior of the nodes.In this paper, a design model for the embedded steel column base is proposed, which is based on the finite element software, Ansys. Based on the numerical results, some dominant parameters are discussed. According to this, the paper can provide help for civil engineers to ensure the integrity and functionality of structure.At first, this paper searches a large number of Literatures. It Summarize the developing trend and the researching status at present. Secondly, the paper introduces the formulas of the steel column base. The finite element model is designed by software Ansys. Results from simulations of the steel column base are discussed. The validity of the model is verified with experimental results. Finally,12models of embedded column base are used to analyze the factors on the mechanical behavior of column base, such as the depth of embedded column, the shape of plate and the specification of anchors. Based on the above conclusions, the paper suggests some information for the design of the structure.
