In the construction of steel structure, the function of the steel column base is tofix the column shaft and transmit the internal force to the foundation. It is animportant part of the structure to connect the upper main structure and the foundation,and playes a crucial role on force transmission and stability performance of theoverall structure. As one of the most important node of steel column base, embeddedcolumn base also has the broadest application.For a long time, the research on the performance of steel structure was focusedon the overall structure performance and the important components, but with lessattention on the research of the nodes–the connection mode of the steel structure.With the growing of the application of steel structure, especially with a series ofearthquake disasters, the importance of the nodes has gradually been known andvalued by scholars. In China, the research on nodes, especially the nodes of steelcolumn base, has a late start with a low starting point. It is mainly based onintroducing and verifying the related formula and specification from foreign countries.As the mainstays of the steel structure, the research on steel column base isparticularly necessary.According to the specification of embedded column base in "TechnicalSpecification for Steel Structure of Tall Buildings"(Draft,shortened as TSTB),combined with the rules of "Architectural Institute of Japan. Recommendation forDesign of Connections in Steel Structures"2012,"Code for Design of SteelStructures"(GB50017) and "Technical Specification for Steel Structure of TallBuildings"(JGJ99-98), this thesis verified the formula of embedded column base inthe new TSTB, summed up the changes and improvements between the new TSTB andthe old one, and compared the design method and formula of embedded column basebetween Japanese specification,"Code for Design of Steel Structures" and the newTSTB.Using the analysis software ANSYS, this thesis adopts the box column which israrely involved in domestic research,to establish the model of embedded column baseand analyze the mechanical behavior. Firstly, based on the calculation result of thetheoretical derivation formula in the specification, it has verified the effectiveness ofthe formula of embedded column base which is adopted by the new"Technical Specification for Steel Structure of Tall Buildings" and the applicability of boxcolumn. Secondly, through setting different parameters, the affect of depth ratio,strength grade of concrete, rohrdimonsion and other factors are researched. When thedepth ratio within a certain range, the bigger of the depth ratio, the bigger of theultimate bearing capacity of the column base. when the depth ratio comes to a certainvalue, the ultimate bearing capacity of the column base is more than that of thesteel column itself. At this time, the ultimate bearing capacity won‘t increase anymore due to the limit of the steel column section. Finally, this thesis verified thedamage situation of the embedded column base and presented the forms of destructionof column base under different parameter conditions, corresponding to the formula ofthe new TSTB spec, which can be divided into the damage of the column, the yieldfailure of the concrete foundation and the yield failure of concrete surrounding theembedded steel column. This research provides reference for the further improvementand engineering application.
