After the Second World War, especially in1980s, social productivity hasbeen developing at an ever faster rate. Scientific technology has become the firstproductive force of the world development. Driven by the force, both aspects ofmedical science and medical diagnosis technology are changing with eachpassing day. Time is also changing at the same time. Under the circumstance ofhigh-speed development of science and technology, our society entered a digitalera. Digital technology, as the outcome of the age, is widely applied in healthcare industry. Modern medical model is transforming into digital medical model. To adapt to the development of society, digitalization is dispensable for specialpublic buildings, such as hospitals. Outpatient building is not only the portal ofhospital architecture, but also the important element of hospitals. Thearchitectural design of outpatient buildings is a difficult problem thatarchitectures always attempt to overcome. In the digital age, traditional architectural design of outpatient building haschanged in many ways. The study of its changing patterns is not only beneficialfor the construction of digital hospitals, but also for providing patients bettermedical environment. The study will promote the concepts of architectural designof modern hospitals. The thesis applies integrated methodologies, including theoreticalconclusion, field research, contrastive analysis, design innovation, to analysisand evaluate outpatient buildings under the digital background. It mainlyanalyzes the architectural design concepts and methods of the outpatientbuildings based on the field investigation in The First Bethune Hospital of JilinUniversity and China-Japan Union Hospital. It summarizes the changes ofarchitectural design of hospitals under digital background, and relocates theirspace functions and streamlines. Meanwhile, according to characteristics ofintellectual systems and digital equipments, the thesis attempts to explore the future possible design methods of some departments, such as waiting rooms, andconsulting rooms.
