Transportation plays a very important role for the development of Human Society Economic, and it’s also an indispensable industry for maintaining national politics and economy stable. In China, Transportation Enterprises as the implementer of transportation have been endowed with the national public property. However, since the reform and opening up and China’s entry the WTO, transportation enterprises gradually accelerate the pace of market-based operation, at the same time, they are in the situation of facing cruel market competition. So it’s necessary to find better transport organization methods to meet the market demands and their own development needs. In this situation, Intermodal transportation which realized by combining various transport resources and advantages is a better choice, reflecting the advanced nature of transport organization methods.On the basis of summarizing intermodal transportation and the related theories, this paper first states the differences of the technical and economical characteristics of all modes of transport, and analyzes how to identify the intermodal mode and choose the transport path, thus builds the theoretical basis of identifying intermodal mode and building the path optimization model; Secondly, according to the internal and external environment of railway, discussing and pointing out the advantages, weakness, opportunities and challenges of developing international transportation; Then, from the perspective of intermodal enterprises, based on the factors which effect transport mode and transport path choice, Evaluation index system for solving the intermodal mode choice problem which based on AHP and path optimization model which include single-task and multi-task have been built, in the model, transport capacity is variable on the network; At last, solution scheme of Simulated Annealing solving the four path optimization model has been designed, simulation results by means of C++program show that the algorithm is feasible, and the optimal solutions can be found.
