This paper describes the basic principles of quick die change and introduces some toolsand methods of quick die change. This paper studies the application of quick die change in aninjection molding company(K company) according to the author’s consulting experience inmanufacturing. This paper analyzes problems of K company by combining modern leanmanufacturing management theory and new study of abroad quick die change perspective,and how to solve these problems by using quick die change management methods in such anintensely competitive market condition.The purpose of writing this article is to help our manufacturing companies by reducingchange over time so as to enhance production efficiency. This paper systematically discussesthe implementation activities of quick die change project in the K company, quick die changeintroduced to improve the work under way, introduced improving methods under quick diechange. We used value stream map, with human analysis, rapid transfer of funds, SPC andother methods, eliminating a lot of waste and non-value-added retooling operations, improveproduction efficiency, and fundamentally reduces the time and cost, enhance thecompetitiveness of products.In K company’s quick die change project implementation, through analysis andevaluation, we found four main questions: retooling process is unreasonable, upper and lowermold operating time is too long, conditioners organizational experience no precipitation willfall and signed version is too long. Contrary to the four main problems, we identified foursub-programs to improve it, including retooling process optimization, upper and lower moldtime optimization, tune-up time optimization and signed edition time optimization. Accordingto the trend of the indicators which has improved, the implementation of the project showsgood results, basically realize of the expected target, reducing the K company ’s changeovertime.This paper have positive significance to the company and other manufacturing andprocessing companies in the future production improvement activities, while have certainguiding significance to the specific applications of lean thinking in the domestic enterprises. We hope this paper can contribute our meager forces for China from a big manufacturingcountry to a modern manufacturing country.
