Distribution network is so important that it is indispensable in power system. It is an intermediate part between main network and power users which deliver the power from the former to the latter. The research on distribution network planning was carried. out for many years of the word fruitfully. This paper obtained a set of steps and processes on distribution network planning on the basic of experience at home and abroad. The main contents of this paper are as follows:Firstly, the basic knowledge of distribution network planning was introduced systematically from aspects of the features and classification、voltage level、supply reliability、 power quality of distribution network.Secondly, the technical principles of distribution network planning were discussed in detail. The select of low voltage pole lines and cable lines are key points during the process of distribution network planning, as well as the design of distribution substation and the application of10kV cables.Thirdly, the technical methods of distribution network planning were deeply analyzed. Accurately prediction of the load is the basic of configuration on distribution lines and transfers. So there is a need to select an appropriate method to predict the load of the planning area. Finally, on the research of present situation of an area power grid, the technical principles and methods talked above were used to plan its complicated distribution network of the following years. The results demonstrated that the planning program of this paper was effective.Last but not the least, combined with years of practical work experience, the author tentatively explored the areas for further study on distribution network planning.
