Investigating Research On Permeable Gravel Garden Paving Materials

Permeable gravel garden paving materials refer to the materials applied togardens whose main component is gravel. Permeable gravel garden paving materialsplay a significant role in mitigating urban heat island effect, maintaining the exchangeof rainwater and groundwater, and protecting the city’s ecological environment. Theapplication of the materials is of great significance for building a low-carbon city and"eco-garden ". A lot of investigations specific to the application of permeable gravelgarden paving materials have been done in this paper. The experiments are performedon the basis of the investigations and the major research results are:(1) Four applications for garden paving materials: there are four: surface coursematerials for a road or square, and surface course materials with other materials, theplaying field, decorations in the garden. The status quo of the applications of gravelroad surface in China’s gardens, however, is like this: the applications are notfrequently adopted, and they are mainly applied to children’s playgrounds, the roadson which people seldom walk, or decorations in gardens;(2) The comparison of economic, ecological, social effects that permeable gravelgarden paving materials could achieve with other permeable paving materials hasshown that the gravel material is superior to other materials. Finding out the reasonsof the inadequacies of the status quo through analyzing the existing usage conditions,and pointing out the things which are required to be paid attention to in the course ofthe construction;(3) Comparing the ratios of the components of permeable gravel garden pavingmaterials commonly used nowadays in each group, and analyzing the mechanical andwater-permeable properties of the materials through experiments. Studies have shownthat when the gravel content is60-64%, mechanical properties of the mixture arefavorable; when the clay ratio is20%-24%, mechanical properties of the mixture arefavorable; (4) On the basis of the analysis of the existing usable material, adding a certainamount of lime and cement as cementing materials, and analyzing the mechanical andwater-permeable properties of blocks through mechanical experiments. Studies haveshown that when the cement content is15%, its mechanical properties are favorable,but the permeability coefficient is almost zero; the content of cement should be about10%when thee permeability coefficient is favorable and the mechanical propertiesmeet the surface course standards of garden paving;(5) The elaborate analysis of the problems which needs to be paid attention towhen gravel road surface is used and promoted, and some solutions have beenprovided to promotion the application of the gravel road surface in gardens.
