Research On Decorative Features Of Architecture In The Islamic Miniatures

The Islamic miniature has a very long history. It is one of the important categoryof the Islamic art. The picture itself of the Islamic miniature is made up of the story,character, scene, etc. Our understanding for the comprehensive value of the Islamicminiatures is not enough at present. We study the storyline and the scenery only fromthe literature and the painting. There are a few studies about the decorative featuresof the architecture which exists in paintings. The thesis attempts to broaden horizonsof the research on the Islamic miniature and provide the research with a newperspective by doing fundamental research of architectural decoration in Islamicminiature.The subject investigated of the thesis is the architectural decoration in theIslamic miniature. The thesis uses the statistical method, analysis, history, art,iconography for investigation. First of all, the thesis sums up a large number ofinformation according to time, place, factions, and other characteristics by collectinginformation and the statistical classification. Then, the thesis does the fundamentalresearch and describe the characteristics of the architectural decoration in the Islamicminiature in detail according to the analysis of existing Islamic miniature. Finally,the thesis compares the architectural decoration in the Islamic miniature with thearchitectural decoration of the Islam to find the differences between them.The first chapter of the thesis is the introduction. It introduces the background,purpose, meaning, scope, focus, structure and method of the thesis. The secondchapter of the thesis studies the background of the Islamic miniature which containsarchitectural decoration. Firstly, the second chapter expound the concept, the culturalbackground, and schools of the Islamic miniature. Secondly, it sums up thedevelopment and the decorative features of the Islamic architecture. Finally, itexplains some related problems of the research. The third chapter of the thesis sortsthe Islamic miniature which contains the architectural decoration, and extracts thearchitectural decoration from it. The purpose is to observe the architecturaldecoration in the miniature and the different characteristics of the same decorativeparts clearly and objectively. The fourth chapter of the thesis does some basicclassification from decorative patterns of the architecture in the Islamic miniature bycopying drawings. The chapter analyses the basic pattern of the decorative patternsof the architecture in the Islamic miniature in detail. And the chapter compares itwith decorative patterns of the Arab to make sure that the decorative patterns of the architecture in the Islamic miniature belongs to the typical decorative patterns of theArab. The fifth chapter of the thesis discusses and compares the architecturaldecoration in the Islamic miniature with the architectural decoration of the Islam inCentral Asia and other places, and looks for similar parts. So it is believed that thedecoration in the existing architecture of the Islam have a certain influence on thearchitectural decoration in the Islamic miniature.The main achievement of the thesis is the detailed arrangement of thearchitectural decoration in the Islamic miniature. The thesis sorts the features ofarchitectural decoration systematically according to the analysis of decorative partsand decorative elements. Comparing the architectural decoration in the Islamicminiature with the Islamic architecture in Central Asia and other places, the thesisdraws a conclusion that the architectural decoration in the Islamic miniature may becreated by the buildings constructed at that time. It is heavily influenced by theIslamic architecture in Central Asia. Although there are some differences in terms oftime and style, there are some correlations between the two in terms of history andculture. So there are a lot of similarities according to the characteristics of thearchitectural decoration.
