| There is a traditional spiritual values called "the soul is immortal even dying" in ancient China. In the historical course of thousand years, the Chinese traditional mausoleum architecture was paid more attention on site selection and design. So, it produced many large tombs which were rare in the world, and in the process of historical evolution, nations in different regions and with different religion existed cultural difference because of being limited by cultural traditions, customs and technology. While Xinjiang Islamic mausoleum building (also called "mazar" transliterated from Arabic) is a part of the Chinese ancient tombs, and is specifically designed for Muslim people to bury and worship the dead. That not only means mourning for the dead, but also reflects the identity of status and religious identity for the Muslim. The architectural form, decorative type, materials technology are combined with the natural environment, which conveys the long-cherished wish of the dead.With the rapid development of the era, it seems that Xinjiang Islamic tomb architecture gradually blurring from people’s sight. In the process of investigation, the author found that many precious architectural form, decorative type and materials technology of Islamic tombs disappeared quietly, and some of them were almost impossible to find any original data and clues. As for its reason, the first is because traditional funeral tomb architecture and culture has been unable to meet the needs of modern society, and another is that awareness of protecting the cultural value of Xinjiang Islamic mausoleum architecture is not enough. The essay focused on this to explore the unique tomb architectural culture in Xinjiang, aiming to evoke the awareness of protecting and studying Xinjiang traditional heritage matters.In this article, we will collect sources on the islamic mausoleum that could represent different periods from Islam was introduced into xinjiang, with typology, graphics, semiotics theory will be applied to the study. The content is divided into the following parts:the first is to introduce the background, literature and methods of xinjiang Islam mausoleum architecture, and propose the innovation of this research and the solution of deficiency.
