The Doubly Salient Motor (DSM) incorporates the merits of both switched reluctance and PMbrushless motor which has simple structure, sturdy, high reliability, small moment of inertia like SRMand high power-to-weight ratio, high efficiency, fast dynamic response, and timing performance is asgood as BLDC. Thus it is suitable for high-speed, high-power applications.For the use of high-power air conditioner compressor drive motor, this paper developed a12/8-pole DSEM and12/8-pole DSPM, which is used to compared between output torque, torqueripple and efficiency in order to select the most suitable structure.This paper mainly studied the structure of DSEM together with the static, steady characteristicsand correlative factors of the motor system. First, the introduction about the structure, operatingprinciple and mathematical model of the concerned DSM is given. Secondly, based on the lineardisposal of excitation flux, some control strategies put forward, such as the standard angle controlmethod (SACM), the advance angle control method (AACM) and the novel turn-on angle&turn-offangle control method. Moreover, designed a DSEM by "analogy method",then planar Finite ElementMethod (FEA) is applied to analyze the magnetic field inside the motor, and a series of staticcharacteristics are investigated, such as field distribution, air gap magnetic density, field flux,inductance, static torque, torque ripple and methods to reduce the ripple of torque. On the bases ofFEA results, a steady analysis method for the motor system’s running steadily is proposed. And aprimary research work has been done on some steady characteristics of the system, such as phasecurrent, field flux, inductance, voltage, output torque and mechanical properties. And all these are thebasis of better operation for DSM.By applying the research tools of finite element method and simulation model method, theinfluences on static characteristics and steady characteristics are investigated exerted by the change ofmotor’s structure. In this text, the investigations are focused on weight of rotor, air gap, and corelength. And these provide references for the design of motor.
