This paper analyzes operating principle of the Doubly Salient Permanent Magnet(DSPM) motor. According to the structural features of automobile wheels, designed an electric vehicle drive doubly salient permanent magnet wheel motor. And then using the method of finite element performance accounting, find the motor performance, and make the analysis and research.First, the structural characteristics of the DSPM motor have been introduced, and then the motor′s operating principle and performance have been analyzed. According to the performance requirements of drive motor which used in electric vehicles designed the structure size of the motor; Using the finite element mesh procedure to subdivision the structure size of the motor which designed in this text, then carry out the electromagnetic field finite element analysis. Through the analysis of its field map, air-gap flux density curves, inductance curve I got some static properties of this motor. Finally calculate mechanical characteristic curve of this motor . The calculation of electromagnetic field which I used in this paper is the 2-D finite element dissection .The mechanical properties I calculated in this paper is used the method of Imaginary Displacement . The calculation method which I used to solve electromagnetic torque need the magnetic field calculated only twice, thus reducing the amount of calculation, while the accuracy has improved.I adopted object-oriented Visual C++ programming method, developed the outer rotor DSPM motor-specific Electromagnetic finite element analysis and accounting procedures. Finally, the design of 50kW outer rotor doubly salient permanent magnet wheel motor as an example process is given.
