In recent years, some areas have developed very rapidly, such as industrial automation, intelligent transportation systems, security system, scientific exploration and so on. Therefore, as the core equipment in these areas, the demand for digital imaging systems has increased substantially. Moreover, digital imaging systems which use charge-coupled device as the imaging element have lots of advantages, such as low noise, high sensitivity and high dynamic range. So digital imaging systems can be widely applied to various industries for the requirements of high imaging quality.The thesis first introduces the domestic and international development status and future trends of digital camera, and then analyzes the features and application range of different area array CCD. According to the design requirements, we put forward the design plan of digital imaging systems. Finally, we realize the design of the high definition digital progressive scan camera.We use the progressive scan charge-coupled device ICX274AQ as the imaging element, so we can realize the high resolution and color image. We design the timing pulse driving and control software by using the programmable logic device. Regarding the sampling and analog to digital conversion parts, we use the12-bit CCD signal processor to enhance the image quality. We use the components which have small size to design the power part, so we can reduce the size of circuit board to satisfy the demands of portability.We also change the RAW format image to the RGB color image, and realize the real-time display of color image. Besides under the different drive modes of CCD, we can realize three types of real-time display to satisfy different application.Finally, we do some performance testing for the digital imaging system, such as dark current, saturation signal, nonlinear of optoelectronic response and so on. The test result shows that the design reaches the requirements.
