In this paper, comparative research on the UHF method and the pulse current method for partial discharge measurement of1100kV GIS was carried out. The relationship of test results by the two means above was determined, which the discharge was generated by artificial defect models set in the tank.Based on the calibration reference in CIGRE TF15/33.03.05, research on a special built-in high-frequency UHF sensor in UHV GIS was carried out. With the help of analysis of the characteristics of the UHF signal, parameters of the signal injected were determined.By changing the amplitude of the pulse injected, output of UHF sensor was measured. The data recorded can be convenient and effective methods for testing the UHF partial discharge detecting devices in UHV GIS. Taking the device structure, location of defects and design of sensors into account, the test data of a variety of products may differ. Test of each kind of product should be carried out in accordance with the method argued in this paper, and the suitable parameters can be deduced. In conclusion, research on the quick calibration of UHF partial discharge monitoring device on UHV GIS and test program is carried out. Advices for test of partial discharge measurement devices is given, which can be technical reference to GIS partial discharge monitoring system. The achievements above can be applied to the UHV engineering in China, which may reduce the economic losses caused by GIS failures and on-site restoration.
