As a significant part of Huizhou traditional garden, Water Gap Garden is oneof the essence of Huizhou culture. It not only possess rural landscape with a strongregional style, but also plays an important part in traditional layout of the village.Influenced by the nature, society, history and culture, Water Gap formed a uniqueartistic conception.Xin’an School of Painting was established by a group of adherents of MingDynasty who painted Huangshan, Baiyue and Huizhou landscape as a theme duringlate Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty. The painters of Xin’an School absorbedthe essence of Xin’an engraving and developed its own style in Chinese artscommunity. Although painting is different from architecture in artistic formation,the two achieve the same results in the creation of artistic conception.This thesis starts with the relationship between Huizhou Water Gap Gardenand Xin’an Painting, analyzing the conversion process from the art of painting andcalligraphy to architectural design based on the investigation to the existing typicalcase and documentary records of Water Gap garden. Meanwhile, it puts forward aidealized model about how to further develop the creation of artistic conception ofHuizhou Water Gap. That is, according to the concept of environmental andarchitectural harmony, it aims at realizing a brand-new ideal habitant model withthe environment as the theme.The thesis consists of four parts: Chapter One introduces the purpose and thesignificance of studying the relationship between Water Gap Garden and Xin’anPainting; Chapter Two presents some research on Huizhou Water Gap Garden;Chapter Three discusses the representatives and their works of Xin’an PaintingSchool; Chapter Four summarizes the relevance of Xin’an Painting and Water GapGarden based on the relationship between gardens and art; Chapter Five focuses onanalyzing the creation of artistic conception from Xin’an Painting to HuizhouWater Gap Garden, and it proves two aspects from Huizhou Park toXin’an ArtGallery.
