Moulded pulp products are widely used as cushion packages with the increasing demands of green packages, because of the fine cushion performances and environmental friendliness. However the variety of geometrical structure and dimension of moulded pulp mould have caused difficulties on cushion package structure design. Research on correlations between mould structures and performances provides basis and guidance for mould structure design, so as to improve the reliability of moulded pulp cushion packages.Further analysis on relation between the size and performance of mould structure elements was done based on a comprehensive understanding of mould structure elements.As the external force acts on geometrical structures along top, lateral and corner directions, varied moulded pulp structures were categorized into three main types of categories and each category was refined into detailed types. The categorization of moulded pulp structures provides basis for performance test on how to choose test samples from varied moulded pulp structures.Test samples with typical characteristics according to the above-mentioned categorization were chosen to be tested under static and dynamic compression tests, in order to get the load-strain and acceleration-time curves.With the synthetical analysis of experimental phenomena and data from testing process, how the deformation mode and extent caused by external force effect the load capacity and cushion characteristic of moulded pulp structure was obtained, and optimum strain range for load capacity and cushion characteristic of moulded pulp structure was explicit; With the experimental results of deformation status of moulded pulp structure, ultimate load from static compression tests, and peak acceleration from dynamic compression tests, analysis of load capacity, cushion characteristic, elastic restitution and performance under repetitive loading of moulded pulp structure was done.The moulded pulp structure that had the best load and cushioning effect cleared. Through the analysis of deformation on the structure, static limit load and of impact peak acceleration, the analysis of load capacity, cushioning properties, elastic recovery, resistance to repeated loading capacity were obtained. Evaluated different moulded pulp structural overall performance according to the results of analysis, improved the program to the type of structure defects. Evaluation on moulded pulp structure performances and defect melioration were presented according to analysis results.Categorization and structure-performance relation test and analysis of moulded pulp structure provide basis and guidance for structure design of moulded pulp cushion package; it is helpful to shorten the design cycle and enhance the performance reliability.
