Product quality problems result in a great waste of resources every year, with the growing popularity of consumer electronic products. For all the problems, these are caused partly by improper product structure, largely due to improper packaging protection. Computer simulation, as an effective numerical analysis method, can simulate the packaging drop environment and obtain dynamic information at any position of the model and obtain more data which is difficult though experiment; moreover adopting computer simulation can reduce the testing cost as well as economize on manpower and material resources.This research takes an example of liquid crystal display (LCD) packaging to simulate its drop impact on the basic of national testing standards. The software SolidWorks is used to build geometric model, and making use of the finite element software Workbench to simulate drop tests of three faces and one edge, applying the LS-DYNA Solver to calculate and then open the results in the software of LS-PREPOST to analysis. The project chooses orthotropic elasticity model as the material model of packaging box, because this model can accurately simulate the characteristics of corrugator plants and show the simulation results more accurately. This paper introduces the simulation process exclude establishing models and selecting material models and setting contacts and meshing and respective problems which should be take attentions. It analyzes the tracing change of deformation, acceleration and strain with time in four kinds of drop test simulation. It summarizes the rules of packaging each component under external shock and the response of expendable parts of electronic products during the drop impact. It also analyzes the protection properties of outer packaging concerns inner product.It is feasible to optimize the cushion foams structure based the simulation results. That is, reduce packaging mass and cut down the consumption of materials and increase economic benefit under the protective effect of cushion foams structure on the inner product.The software Design-Expert is used to optimize cushion foams structure in this paper. According to the strain characteristics of cushion foams in the drop test of three faces, select proper design variables to optimize respectively. In the optimization of bottom face and long face, it obtains ideal optimization results. The optimized packaging mass and maximum strain and maximum accelerate are smaller than before. This can not only save raw materials, but also reduce the cost of transportation and increase economic efficiency. The optimization of cushion foams structure in three faces drop test prepares sufficient information for the design of entire cushion foams. Additionally, the optimization method provides ideas and methods for the same type of experiment.
