Since the reform and opening up, along with the housing system reform further advanced,our nation gradually established new housing system which according with the social marketeconomic system. The fundamental effect of market in allocating the resources significantlyenhanced. The living condition of urban and rural residents has changed dramatically, as wellas the improving living environment and the quality of life. But when the invisible hand of themarket coming into play, the government which as the visible hand, is not fully functioning asto solve the housing problem relying too much on the market mechanisms. The market isfailure in solving the problem of high housing prices, the disability of affording a house, andthe disorder standard in market. Along with the world economic crisis in2008tends to bestable, our housing market has experienced another round of rising price, putting the housingcontradiction to the forefront again.In recent years, with the rapid development of economy appeared inharmonious socialphenomenon, the government has realized that the important relationship between the rapideconomic development and social harmony. The communist party of China clearly claims toimprove the ability of constructing the harmonious socialist society. And the government hasfully realized the importance and urgency of constructing the affording housing system andsolving the housing problem of low-income groups in the city. The government was engagedin resolving the problem of low-income groups and received important progress. But underthe influence of market economy, the affordable housing was usually placed in the peripheralplace. The low-income groups are artificially isolated out of the mainstream of society as tospeed up the differentiation of living space.Under this background, the article discuss the affordable housing in Lanzhou mastercity. The analysis of the current population′s characteristics and the space requirements isbased on the specific empirical analysis, and in the view of the social and physical propertiesin living space. The thesis provide the relevant theory and the empirical research foundationin construction of urban planning, in order to understand and solve the affordable housingproblem, and put forward strategy of spatial development, and want to guide the constructionand planning of affordable housing as to relieve the contradiction of housing problem.The article is divided into six chapters:Chapter1discuss the background and the significance of the research, as well as therelevance concept and framework of the thesis.Chapter2is the theoretical basis of the thesis,it conclude the related research ofaffordable houses and the progress in the research of living space. At last,it card the domesticpolicy in the low-cost housing. Chapter3-5is the empirical study of affordable house in Lanzhou. Chapter3firstlyconclude the current situation of the development of affordable house of Lanzhou, secondly,it analysis the characteristic of the living space of affordable house, lastly it conclude thematerial properties of affordable house from the macro and micro level.Chapter4discuss the development mechanism of residential space of affordable house inLanzhou city from prospect of government intervention and social development, and comparethe development of the affordable house in Beijing.
