The purpose of this paper is to find solutions of the problems that the expansion and utilization of the space and the reasonable coordination of household products and space.By analyzing a large number of material literatures and using the method of contradiction analysis, and starting with the actual contradictions between the low space utilization rate and the increasing demand of space, studies the small family household space and its related household products as a whole system. Analyze the intimate connection of household space and the related products. Household space limits the size, function, style of household product, instead, household products also through the effect of leading, separation, adjustment etc. limits the household space.Using the method of system integration, bases on the exploration of the relationship, starts from the whole spatial development and utilization of small family household, integrating various specific methods, analyze each element of system. Respectively studies on household space utilization method and space saving property of household product itself. There are three aspects of the study of household space research method:utilization of household high space, utilization of concealed and bits of space and the use of architectural component. Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of space utilization of high scale furniture, suspension type furniture and loft-furniture, explore the feasibility of expanding space by using wall and stair. Discussing the space saving property of household product itself from five aspects: multifunctional furniture, folding furniture, modular furniture, portable furniture and household electrical appliances, elaborating the method of using space from multi-angle, and using the analysis method, analyzing the basic design method of merits and demerits, provides basis and reference for new design methods.Through the system analysis of each method’s status in the whole system and relationship between each other, respectively studies every sub-method and carry on comprehensive creation, system integration, concludes the new design methods, reveals a mechanism that the whole is greater than the sum of part. Referencing to all kinds of existing household product design method that how to use of space, enhances strong points and avoid weaknesses. Study the small family household space and its related household products as a whole system, and deal with the relationship between architectural design, interior design and household product design, inter-working, make full use of the similarities between the several designs, searching for new methods and ways for small family household space development and utilization. Puts forward some new household product design methods, such as the design method of build loft furniture’s function to modular, the design method of combining with folding furniture and flexible wall, the design method of expanding use of multifunctional furniture and the design method of kitchen electric product integration etc.Using practical method, apply the theories and design methods in practice, tests its feasibility through the concrete design scheme. Then using the objective optimization method, finally arrive at the optimum scheme.The discusses and the research of this paper provides some new train of thought of how to development and use the space of small family household, some new design methods of household product design, make household products and building can be very good fit with each other, create a more broad, function perfect household space collectively. Provides a better living environment for the majority of residents, improves the quality of life, and provides reference for the future development of architecture, interior, household product design.
