Taking time as the order, Humanism thought of Chinese-western urban planningtheory, divided into developing stages and historical period, was studied through theintegrating of period background and evolutionary properties of urban planning theory.Via analyzing the developing conditions of different stages, and summarizing thethought kernel and major theories so as to the relationship between theories andpractices of urban planning, to reveal the evolutionary law of Chinese-western urbanplanning theory and its consistency and otherness and construct an overall framework ofthe development of humanism planning thought.This paper composes of six chapters, the first one was introduction whichrecommends the study origin and expounds the goals and significance of this study, andits object, contents, methods and technical routes. In the second chapter, domestic andforeign urban planning theories, evolutionary research reviews, and current studies ofhumanism planning thoughts were introduced. The third and fourth chapter weredepended on time succession to introduce emerging and developing of western andChinese humanism thoughts, underlined the stage characteristics of different historicalperiods, analyzed the generating background, summed up the dominating thought kerneland representative theories, revealed the influence through urban practical description,and then summarized the respective revolutionary law. Time horizon of this study wasfrom ancient Greece to the beginning of21st century and from Xizhou Dynasty to theinitial21st century. The fifth chapter was based on the third and fourth chapter, adoptedcomparative study to learn the evolution of Chinese-western humanism planningthoughts, summarized its conformity, and analyzed existing otherness and its mainreasons from society, technology and ecosystem. The last chapter was conclusion.Through investigating the evolutionary processes and disciplines ofChinese-western humanism planning thoughts, this paper aimed to reveal cognitionalrevolution and promotion of urban planning theory on the nature and social effects ofurban planning, enrich urban planning views, and provide reference and enlightenmentto modern urban planning construction and future development, meantime endue thestudy with practical meanings.
