With market competition increasingly fiercer and house owners more and moreconscious of right safeguarding, the quality of construction projects has now become thefocus of attention from both enterprises and house owners. In the meanwhile, traditionalquality control theories cannot solve the problem of failure to coordinate differentfunctional departments and to feed information back timely caused by improper labordivision among different functional departments of the enterprises. Thus there appearsthe management vacuum or overlapping management. This thesis applies the idea ofvalue chain to the quality control of construction projects, trying to approach theproblem in light of the value chain theory. It is of both theoretical and practicalsignificance for continuously improving the quality control of construction projects.By analyzing some basic concepts, the value chain theory and the quality controltheory, this thesis tries to build a value chain-based quality evaluation index system forconstruction projects. The paper in the first part presents the general research into thevalue chain of construction projects, analyzes the basic and auxiliary activities in thevalue chain, and introduces the general method and process of value chain-based qualitycontrol. Through document research and summarization of engineering practice, thethesis builds a value chain-based quality evaluation index system for constructionprojects and develops a mathematical model for the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation ofconstruction projects. In the end, the paper studies empirically the quality control ofconstruction projects by referring to the value chain theory. It decomposes the activitypart of the value chain and uses the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method for thequantitative assessment of quality problems in the designing period of constructionprojects, therefore proving the scientific nature and feasibility of the theoretical researchin this thesis. The thesis also concludes problems in the quality control practice of constructionprojects, and offers the following feasible suggestions. First, supervision over theconnection points in the value chain should be intensified. Second, a comprehensivepost-evaluation system for construction projects should be established. Third, theprocedures should be straightened out and rearranged. Fourth, the management chainshould be shortened and the value chain optimized. Fifth, a virtual value chain based on information technology should be constructed. This paper, by researching into the valuechain-based approach, is aimed at providing support and help for the quality control ofconstruction projects.
