Medicl diagnostic ultrasonic device has been widely used in clinicaltreatment with the features of celerity and safety, however, it also causes muchinconvenience for doctors as well as patients because of its large size and highprice. In recent years, in order to solve the problem above, the handheldultrasound device has gradually become a hot research field of medicalultrasound. In this paper, the OMAP3530, integrating an ARM and a DSP on chip, has been adequately used for the design and implementation of Digital ScanConversion algorithm which is the most computational intensive part in thehandheld ultrasound device.First of all, combined with the framework and workflow of the medicalultrasound imaging system, indepth analysis for function and principle of DigitalScan Conversion is made, and several algorithms commonly used in the processof Digital Scan Conversion are researched and compared with each other in thispaper. After that, the most appropriate algorithm has been selected according tothe result of Matlab simulation as well as the actual needs of the handheldultrasound device.Secondly, detailed analysis for the hardware and software environment ofOMAP3530has been made, and a data communication mechanism between ARMand DSP has also been developed after the design of the embedded systemoverall architecture which assigns the functional responsibilities of the ARM andDSP.Finally, based on the dual-core architecture of OMAP3530, on the DSP side, the Digital Scan Conversion algorithm has been designed and implemented withrational allocation of resources and parallel computing mechanism, whichguarantee the computing efficiency of the algorithm. On the ARM side, a multi- thread application framework has been designed, and Codec Engine has beenconfigured to allow the ARM application calling the DSP algorithm. Asauthenticated by the test, the Digital Scan Conversion algorithm designed in thispaper achieved desired results in both function and performance.
