Wooden toy is a design practice for children aging3-5, this design report is a summarizationof the overall practice project and design works.Part I--Report of Market ResearchThe author conducts a market research and analysis on the current development of woodentoy and acquires a relatively comprehensive knowledge of this industry, then carries out aninvestigation and survey on the cooperative enterprises to understand their advantages ofproduction and sales. According to the current market and existing problems of this title, theauthor investigates both domestic and foreign toy markets, especially wooden children toys, andproceeds comparison and study by collecting, sorting and analyzing relevant information anddata obtained by in-spot and internet investigation. The result is as follows. Wooden toy is toosimple functioned and played in a form of a single, and is only an improvement of the traditionalwooden toys, which lacks competitiveness against other toys favored by parents and children.The result provides market positioning, feasibility analysis and key points summary, and helpsestablish and refine design.Part II--Report of BibliographyAfter confirming targeted market and design, the author makes analysis and research of toyconsumption trend and design trend by studying documents and bibliography, looks for designentry point of age, entertainment, inspiration and safety and sets out the final theme of "HOPEME". The title meets the requirements of both targeted-user-features with practical use and socialculture development. Researches of related documents mainly focus on the utility, style andmaterial technics of children toys, as well as the reflection of children’s living method in theprocess of game-playing. This part is aimed to get a deeper understanding of children growth andmental development and summarizes playability foothold of wooden toy design, for the sake ofpositioning and defining the design practice and providing possible background and contents.Part III--Report of Design PracticeLaunch design practice according to the theme requirements. During the design process,from creativity-draft stage to mode-construction stage, the author has made a product design exploration by element extraction and sketch discussion, and several creation adjustments; onprocessing and practice stage, sketch scrutiny and prototype experiment based on function arerealized and a comparatively considerate analysis on the problems in practical production hasbeen made and related solutions are yet discovered. All these stages contribute to theaccomplishment of the "HOPE ME" design of wooden toy. With the help of the final project, anin-depth development of ability training and emotional needs of children aging3-5has beenachieved. This part is a record and summarization of the original design intention, plan andexecuting procedure. The author sincerely hopes that the finished work can be of fine practicalpurpose and extensibility.
