This study aimed to study the performance of ammonium nitrate(AN)-additives mixtures, with an emphasis on the analysis of heat sensitivity performance and the explosive performance. The KCl, NaCl, and NH4H2PO4were added to the AN by mechanical mixing methods and the solution mixing methods. Relative thermal stability were determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), the spread of detonation ability of the modified AN and ANFO was tested by the United Nations gap test, the Koenen test was used to measure the sensitiveness of AN and ANFO substances to intense heat with varied confinement.The result show that:when AN contained25%KCl,20%NaCl and30%NH4H2PO4, AN initial reaction temperature increased to220.14℃,261.57℃,215.96℃respectively, KCl, NaCl, and NH4H2PO4as additive can improve the AN initial reaction temperature. The three additives also can reduce the thermal sensitivity of the AN, the modified AN that prepared by the solution mixing method the critical value of KCl and NaCl are30%-35%,35%-40%, the critical value of NH4H2PO4less than10%, for the mechanical mixture method the critical value of KC1and NaCl are30%-35%,35%-40%, the critical value of NH4H2PO4less than10%.The results of DSC and the Koenen test results show that the mixed method is not significantly affected the results. The results of the UN gap test are shown that:the modified AN that prepared by a solution mixing method the critical value are10%-15%、10%-15%、25%-30%, for the mechanical mixture method the critical value are15%-20%、30%-35%、20%-25%, Within the scope of the critical value, the detonation of the modified ammonium nitrate can’t stable spread. That suggests that there have a great impact on the detonation of AN for the different additives and different method of mixing.
