Saw is an important cutting tool in the mining, pipe and bar cutting, and timberprocessing, the quality of which greatly determines the cutting accuracy and the tool life.In the traditional way of saw processing with the surface grinding machine, all of sawfeeding, saw height measurement and the compensation of the grind wheel wear are donemanually, which results in the worse uniformity of the saw dimension, high intensity oflabor but low efficiency. In order to achieve the goal that the saw can be processed withhigh accuracy and high efficiency, this paper has done a systematically study on thedevelopment of NC system of the automatic saw grinder which integrated the functions ofthe auto-feeding, saw height measurement and grinding. The main tasks of this paper arelisted as below.According to the structure of the saw grinder machine, this paper has developed ahardware platform based on the HNC-21NC device, and a software platform especiallyfor the fully automatic saw grinder based on the real-time DOS system software. Based onthe LVDT sensor, the measurement device, safe and reliable, has been designed.According to the characteristic of the saw processing, this paper has madeintroductions in great details on the realization of the two parallel control methods, thesingle piece one time grinding and double pieces inter grinding, which include the G codedesign, the PLC program design, the self-defined M code design and the communicationbetween the PLC and the upper computer. The parallel control methods greatly improvedthe efficiency and productivity of the saw processing.Considering the characteristic of the grind wheel wear during the processing, thealgorithm of data processing and dynamic compensation of the grind wheel wear has beendesigned, which greatly improved the product accuracy.At last, this paper has designed a series of protection mechanism for safety and auser-friendly interface and a G code automatic generation.
