With high plasticity, great malleability and some other excellent properties, copper js a kind of important raw material in national economy, producing and living, national defence industy and technological development. Highly purified copper used nowadays is generally gained by electrolytic copper process, that is, anode copper acts posictive pole, and thin fine copper acts negative pole, which are both set to electrolytic cell oppositely. In this device, straightness of the copper starting sheet on negative pole plays a key role in ensuring the stability of electrolytic operation and improving the production efficiency, therefore, copper sheets on copper negative pole must be roller leveled before production. Aimed at improving production efficiency and reducing the cost of production, we consider the actual producing condition of a certain smelter in this paper, according to analyzing the mechanism of a roller leveler and optimizing the raw leveler device, we study the leveling of the copper negative sheet.In this paper, as the thickness of the copper negative sheet is only0.8mm, the leveling process of the sheet on roller leveler is complicated, which involves several subjects, like geometric nonlinearity, material nonlinearity, contacting nonlinearity. In this paper, starting with the knowledge of Material mechanics and elastic mechanics, theoretical analysis on some aspects including stress-strain, curvature and bending moment were studied. Then, combining the principle of a roller leveler with the specified condition that the thickness of the copper sheet is only0.8mm, the value ranges of rollers’diameter, rollers’interval distance and rollers’length were worked out. Also, large deformation leveling scheme was decided aiming at leveling characters of raw leveling mechanism, and relative programs were written based calculating tool MATLAB, which output the bending curvature ratio, residual curvature ratio and the reasonable number of rollers. Finally, on the basis of the value ranges of leveling parameters, different exact values were given in nonlinear finite element simulation software ANSYS/LS-DYNA. After the reveling processes were simulated, we compare and estimate the two targets that are bending curvature ratio and residual curvature ratio, which were output from postprocessor, and gained the leveling results of different leveling parameters, consequently, we got the best set of leveling parameter.The work in this paper can provide theoretical analysis and technical parameters for leveling of metal sheets, also, can be used to guide to design the basic parameters of a roller leveler, which has a certain practicality and engineering application benefit.
