The most of grain storage in China are farmers’ storage, their grain loss rate are relativelyhigh because of their short of storage technology and capital, so it is of great significance toreduce farmers’ loss rate. However, farmers’ grain storage has not been paid much attentionfor so many years, their grain loss rate is still far higher than that of country’s grain depot andbring huge economic loss. In order to reduce farmers’ grain loss rate and guarantee grainquality during store period, this paper put forward a new thinking-develop grain container canbe benefit for grain and design grain monitoring system, and has done some basic researchworks. They include research of which container material can be better for grain and designof monitoring system. This paper provided the theory evidence for farmers to select suitablestorage container, and offered an early warning method to carry out safeguard measures ingood time to protect grain.This research has tested the influence of different container materials on grain qualityduring farmers’ grain storage time, checked grain samples which selected from three farmers’iron barns and plastic barns and the storage time last from3months to24months, thedetection index included weight loss rate, moisture content, fatty acid value, protein content,catalase activity and species and number of pests. The results show that, the weight loss rateof grain stored in plastic containers is lower than that in iron containers; the change ofmoisture content of grain stored in plastic containers is less than that in iron containers; theeffect of fatty acid value, protein content and catelase activity by different containers’materials is little; the number of pests of grain stored in plastic containers is less than that iniron containers. So, plastic containers are better for storage than iron containers.The second part of this research had designed farmer grain monitoring system based onSTC89C52SCM, includes choose of system hardware, circuit design and program design.This system gathers the grain heap’s temperature through DS18B20and the barn’stemperature and moisture through SHT11. The SCM collect and process the data, and thencompare with the secure temperature and moisture range in SCM, when the processed dataexceed secure range, SCM will send order to give an alarm through buzzer. The processeddata can be watch on LCD1602display screen. This system could also set various kinds of grain secure storage range to monitor their storage surroundings.
