Water-based ink is a new type of ink, and emerges as the times require which people pay moreattention to low-carbon and environment friendly materials. The most featurest is to use wateras solvent, so it’s safe and no pollution to environment. It is mainly used in flexographic andgravure printing, especially in recent years, water-based flexographic printing ink has gotrapid development with the rapid development of the flexographic printing. In somedeveloped countries90%flexographic printing ink is water-based ink. In China, water-basedink is gradually replacing the traditional solvent-based inks, so it have very broad prospects.Although water-based flexographic ink has a very distinct advantage, most of thedomestic production of water-based ink is slow-drying, bad water resistance, and low gloss,which also inhibits its rapid development and use. These drawbacks are mainly associatedwith the properties of the resin and ink additives. So this paper study synthesis process of theaqueous acrylic resin and formulation of aqueous acrylic resin and water-based flexographicprinting ink, finally prepare a kind of fast-drying, good water resistance and high glosswater-based flexographic printing ink.This paper study related synthesis process of the aqueous acrylic resin by a large numberof experiments, such as the ratio of anionic to non-ionic emulsifiers and total, amount anddropping way of initiator, process of salt-forming used by ammonia and influence of bufferconcentration on pH of the polymerization system and so on. The results related are asfollowing: OP-10: SDS=3:2, the total amount of emulsifier is5%of monomers, the totalamount of initiator is0.5%of monomers and the dropping way of initiator is semi-continuousthe ammonia concentration is10to20%, the amount of buffering agent is0.5g.Raw materials for water-based acrylic resin were screened and optimized after a numberof compounded and comparative experiments in this study, the influence of different amountand ratio monomers on water-based acrylic resin properties were studied. The results relatedare as following: when MMA/AA is3:2, the total amount of AA is3.6%of monomer, thetotal amount of HPA is6.7%of monomer, the emulsion viscosity of synthetic resin is153.5mPa.s, particle size distribution is less than100nm, the gel fraction is0.7%, the hardnessof the film is70HD, resistance of acid, alkali and water is respectively class1,3and2, glasstransition temperature is21.91℃.Raw materials for water-based ink were screened and optimized after a number ofcompounded and comparative experiments in this study, the influence of different amount and ratio raw materials on water-based ink properties were studied. The results related are asfollowing: when the amount of resin is40%, the amount of pigment is25%, the amount ofisopropyl alcohol as d cosolvent is5%, the amount of dispersing agent is3%of pigments andfillers, pH is8.5, the amount of water in ink is25%, the ink has fast drying rate, good glossand anti-water. Property of water-based flexographic printing ink prepared for non-absorbentmaterial such as film flexographic printing are as following: fast drying speed:22mm/30s,high gloss:87%, good resistance of water resistance: class4, good tinting strength:97%,strong adhesion, the fineness:10m, low viscosity:69.6mPa.s, pH:8.5and stableperformance, water-based ink for non-absorbent material such as film flexographic printing.
