Areca-nut slicing is an important process in processing. As the shape of areca-nut isirregular, it is difficult to slice the areca-nut at symmetry plane while mechanical slicing, soat present the manufacturing enterprises mainly rely on manual work to complete slicingoperation. While market competition is intensifying, the traditional manual slicing cannotmeet the needs of large-scale production, especially with the reducing of rural surplus labor,it has become an urgent need to research an efficient automatic areca-nut slicing machineto transform traditional industries. Taking areca-nut slicing as the research object, thispaper has accomplished the design of areca-nut slicing virtual prototype on the basis of theresearch of areca-nut physical properties, the deducing of areca-nut slice force formula andthe principle of areca-nut positioning. The paper’s main accomplished work is as follows:1) This paper measured the basic geometrical, physical parameters of the areca-nutand obtained the length, density, moisture content, compressive strength of areca-nut; itestablished the areca-nut slicing of mechanical model and deduced the areca-nut slicingforce formula; it studied the regularity of the slice force changing with the depth of cut; itobtained the influential law of force of blade parameters, the sliding cutting angle andbiopsy rate by experiments.2) Based on the buoyancy principle, this paper put forward a scheme which canautomatically find the areca-nut symmetry plane for the irregular shape of areca-nut,analyzed and calculated the theory straighten clamping error; designed a device that can fixareca-nut to the surface area. It verified the analysis through the localization test andprovided a theoretical basis to the design of the areca-nut machine mechanism.3) This paper completed the overall structure design of areca-nut slicing machine,including the conveying mechanism, positioning mechanism, slicing mechanism andtransmission mechanism. It also finished the design of the pneumatic control system,including the design of pneumatic circuit, selection of pneumatic components and thepreparation of control procedures.4) Based on the CAD and CAE module of Siemens NX8.0, this paper established thethree-dimensional model of areca-nut slicing machine, accomplished the operation of thevirtual assembly, interference checking and simulation analysis, and preliminarily verifiedthe validity of mechanism design.
