Based on the characteristics of lengthways veneers slicing, this paper analyses the formation of back clearance, factors influencing back clearance in lengthways slicing and properties of heating slcing thick veneers combination with the Characteristics of wood.Some points have been listed as follow:Based on the Shaper Type B690,designed a heating slcer for thick vneer. It can simulate the working method of lengthways slicer,achieving the heating and unheating slicing.Have study on the optimized conditions of pre-cooking process for red oak and African teak, which were used in this paper.Formation of back clearance is analyzed in lengthways slicing with observing the character of back clearance on the oak veneer using CCD camera.With the same cutting parameters,the effects of four different bar-types on back clearance rate and surface roughness of slice was studied.After that, conducted an orthogonal experiment to analyze the effect of cutting thickness, knife inclination angle and cutting speed on the back clearance rate. The result showed that the back clearance rate was increased rapidly with the increase of cutting thickness, and increased slightly with the increase of the cutting speed and knife inclination angle from 45°to 70°.In addition, this study evaluated and quantified the relationships between surface quality and the AE signals, founded that the ring-down count rates of AE signals is correlated with back clearance rate and surface roughness.The new way of slicing thick veneer by heating slicer using heat transfer oil was introduced, base on temperature measurement using infrared thermography, the back clearance rate and surface roughness of slicing veneer were decreased by heating slicer, compared with unheating slicing veneer, the back clearance rate and the surface roughness are both improved.
