To help the future environmental protection and rural ecological landscape planning in Yimatu county, Hebei province, the distribution of landscape pattern are studied, through analyzing the remote sensing images. According to the second national land use classification,6kinds of landscape patterns are divided through ERDAS and Arc View GIS. To analyze the character of landscape pattern of the study area, principles of landscape ecology is used and landscape indices are chosen. The result shows that: other land, woodland and farmland are dominant landscape types. The area of other land is the largest, reaching14,229.23hectares, which is about34%of the total area. That of transportation land is45.21hectares, the smallest, which is about13%of the total area. Farmland mainly locates in the North, accounting for68%of the total area of arable landscape. Water landscape has a not very large overall size, but its large patch size and better connectivity has a very significant impact of the ecological environment. Ecological environment in North is mainly charged by farmland. Farmland landscape in North of the study area is larger, wider distribution and has a larger average patch area. Yimatu county has a huge landscape patch density difference and strong landscape heterogeneity. Landscape diversity index of the study area is close to that of its Southern District, which means the other landscape with a single type has a dominant effect on the study area.
