The application of traditional GIS has some disadvantages like the poor intuition and lack of interact with the real world. Therefore, in order to improve the application experience, a new method used augmented reality has been introduced into GIS. With the implementation of outdoor augmented reality GIS system as the breakthrough point, the following research work has been done:(1) The method to implement virtual-real fusion of the outdoor augmented reality GIS has been studied. Firstly, an image registration method based on sensor is chosen according to the characteristics of the outdoor combination of GIS and augmented reality; secondly, the function of image registration is implemented used the data of location and posture after detailed research of the principle and method used GPS, digital compass and the acceleration sensor to get the location and posture of the equipment. A new method has been proposed to convert the GPS coordinates to the world coordinate system.(2) The integration method of spatial geographic data of augmented reality GIS has been studied. An acquisition strategy for spatial geographic data based on three layer architecture model has been posed after analysis of the characteristics of multi-source heterogeneous in GIS spatial geographic data and the application characteristics of outdoor augmented reality GIS. After the introduce of the service-oriented integration method of spatial geographic data, one integration method of spatial geographic data of augmented reality GIS, the integration structure has been designed for the spatial geographic data of augmented reality GIS.(3) A prototype GIS system used augmented reality based on sensor was designed and implemented on the Windows Phone. The module of function design, the working process of the system and the programming process of the key module has been listed in the thesis. The result of the outdoor tested shows that the method proposed in the thesis can implement the real-time display of spatial geographic data and strengthen the result of the show.
