Investigation And Protection Of Important Geological Heritage In Chaohu Area

The Paleozoic-Mesozoic strata in North Chaohu Area is well developed, with clear stratigraphic sequence and wide variety of fossils discovered here, this region has won its reputation of geosciences field due to its outstanding geological heritage features. In recent years, however, suffering from limestone ore extraction, illegal mining of precious fossils, as well as other artificial destruction, many valueable geological heritage in this area subject to different degrees of damage. By taking field geological investigation, detailed information about the geological heritage within this region is collected and classified.In this article, according to the survey,50geological heritage is spotted and sorted into4main category9subclass, information of them has been collected and fine recorded; LA-ICPMS zircon in-situ analysis technique was used to determine the accurate formed age of the magmatic rocks in this area, the weighted average206Pb/238U age of16measure points shows a age of100.8±1.3Ma, which represents the formed age of the rockmass; AHP analytic hierarchy process is used for rating all geological heritage here in the area, and accordind to their grade and distribution,2first-class conservation areas,3second-class conservation areas and3third-class conservation areas are devided; reference to the relevant laws and regulations, plan to protect geological heritage and conservation areas is suggested for the government; with the information gathered in the survey of all geological heritage, based on MapGIS software development platform, data base of "Geoheritage Chaohu" is developed to carry out digitization and visualization of geoheritage information.
