Scientific And Technological Culture Of Ancient China With Its Contemporary Value

China is an ancient civilization with5000-year history and culture. The industrious and ingenious laboring people, also with the innovative spirit, created splendid ancient Chinese technological culture, which has made invaluable contributions to promote the progress of world civilization. As we all know, science and technology in China before the16th century has been in the forefront of the world. However, we cannot indulge in the glory of the past and should find some inspiration from that. Ancient Chinese culture mainly included scientific methods, technological ideas, spirit and achievements etc.. Nowadays the western science and technology take the forefront worldwide. And we need to inherit the essence of ancient Chinese science and technology when learning that from the western countries, so we can establish our unique technological culture, which is supposed to contribute to our culture’s coming to the forefront in the world.This paper discussed ancient Chinese culture of science and technology as well as its contemporary values from three aspects. First of all, the factors were analyzed in detail which may have effect on the development of ancient Chinese culture of science and technology also from three aspects including geography, political system and ideology. In the second part of the paper, some characteristics of ancient Chinese culture of science and technology were stated, such as practicability, political ethics, technical experience, holism and intuitiveness. Based on these characteristics, we summed up the brilliant achievements of ancient Chinese science and technology in various fields and its place in the world. The final part discussed the contemporary values of ancient Chinese culture of science and technology on enhancement of culture soft power, development of modern technological innovation and construction of ecological civilization.
