Satellite signal simulator is used to generate the satellite navigation signals undervarious actual circumstances in laboratory, which can be received by receiver. In order totest the performance such as multipath mitigation, anti-jamming, compatibility andinteroperability. A satellite navigation signal simulator with quantitative assessment,repeatable property, sufficient accuracy, simulating variety of environment is essential.This paper takes GPS L1signal as an instance, design a GPS signal simulator basedon LabVIEW, MATLAB and Virtual Instruments. The first part gives a brief description ofthe GPS signal characteristics and generation method, determines the C/A codes as theobject of study. The second part discusses the simulating of GPS baseband signal byMATLAB. The next part introduces the generation of GPS RF signal by LabVIEW andVirtual Instruments in detail. Finally, the last part analyses and verifies the navigationsignal performance by Handheld Spectrum Analyzer and Data Collector.This paper introduces "Virtual Instruments" into the design of navigation signalsimulator. It has good controllability, compatibility and expansibility. This technologymakes it very easy to design a special signal simulator based on the common platform, soas to shorten the development cycle and satisfy the need of verification.
