Research And Application Of Cooperative Technology Between WebGIS And MobileGIS

Computer has been playing an increasingly important role in our life since1946when it was created. We have walked into the age of computer and brought a series ofcalculation mode revolution as well. With the development of computer, Geographicinformation system (GIS) has also reached a new stage and has been widelyrecognized in the area of decision-making support. In the1960s, the scientistsproposed the concept of the Internet. In the1990s, thanks to the development andpopularization of computer, the rise of Internet not only brought us the concept ofnetwork computing but also made us into a real network era. What’s more, thedevelopment of GIS has entered a golden age. Combining Web technology and GIStechnology, the most exciting production——Web-based geographic informationsystem （WebGIS） has came, which brought the real popular GIS. With thedevelopment of information technology, the integration of mobile communicationtechnology and Internet technology, database technology and the promotion ofintelligent electronic communications equipment, a brand new computingmode——mobile computing has come into being. The information industry hasentered the "post-PC era", a ubiquitous computing. It also brings another product——the mobile geographic information system (MobileGIS), which makes GIS canexist everywhere. With the development of the times, the two major products of GIS,WebGIS and MobileGIS will inevitably combine and have a common development.Then they will provide the users with GIS services together and promote the furtherdevelopment of the GIS. This paper mainly studies the collaborative technologies ofWebGIS and MobileGIS, discusses their characteristics, how to combine these twotechnologies and how to make better applications in real life.This paper includes the following aspects:1. GIS services collaborative technology;2. Collaborative technologies for data storage and data scheduling; 3.The unity of underlying map and coordinates.Finally, this paper gives an example of a National SME Technology InnovationFund——Web3D/SNS virtual community platform based on geographic informationand location services to introduce the applications of the collaborative technologies ofWebGIS and MobileGIS. It also the details of the implementation process of thedevelopment of campus mobile carpool system based on the collaborative technology,virtual reality technology and mobile communications technology.
