Spatial data is the kerrel of Geographic Information System (GIS). So, It is an important problem for GIS how to store spatial data efficiently. Limited by traditional database technology, the spatial data and attribute data were stored dividually. With the transfermation of GIS application to the Distributed Management System, concurrency control, data sharing and network communication become the new problems. At the same time, with the improvement of large-scale relational database technology, GIS software is developing in the direction of the "centralization of management". That is to say, by making full use of the large-scale relational database technology, both spatial data and attribute data can be stored unitedly in database.Under the guidance of the "centralization of management", the author makes an investigation of the spatial database. Firstly, by analyzing and comparing the large-scale relational database, object-oriented database, object-relation database, and the data models of the three spatial databases, a data model of spatial geometric data storage in RDBMS is put forward. The data organization and the storage structure in the data model are studied.Secondly, the author summarizes that the middleware is a mostefficient way to spatial database integrated management, and designs a spatial data processing middleware to access the spatial data in the spatial database. By data conversion module and graphical display module in the spatial data processing middleware, the storage and display of spatial data can be realized.Finally, it is realized that using whole-relational spatial data model manages basic spatial data, special spatial data and attribute data about mineral resources administrational management of Land and Resources Bureau, Huaihua. Besides, by the spatial data processing middleware, an administrational management information system of mineral resources is constructed, which illustrates the performance and effect of the spatial database management information system.
