Research On Intra-industry Trade Between China And ASEAN

In the1990s, the bilateral trade between China and Asean countries has beenincreased,which is the foundation for the establishment of china-Asean free trade area,sinceChina-Asean free trade area began to build in November of2002, the trade volume keptgrowing, trade pattern also gradually has been changed from inter-industry trade tointra-industry trade, the index of intra-industry trade showed a rising trend, especially for themanufactured goods, to a certain extent, the rising of the index attributed to the developmentof the countries`economy and industrial structure of similarity between countries.Intra-industry trade expanded the trade volume and improved the welfare of the world tradelevel through adjusting the economic cost between trading nations. The development ofintra-industry trade can help developing countries to get rid of dependence on developedcountries through inter-industry trade and narrow the gap with developed countries.The research on the current situation and influence factors for the intra-industry trade ofChina-Asean has a certain practical significance. the development of intra-industry trade canimprove the trade level of the participating countries, trade products would be morecompetitive, which not only can optimize the bilateral export structure, but also promote thefurther construction of China-Asean free trade area.Along with the rapid economicdevelopment of bilateral countries, the intra-industry trade characterized as economy scaleand differentiated products has a very big development space. nowadays, the regionaleconomic integration is the trend, China-Asean economic exchanges and trade volume will bemore closely, trade structure will be more optimized, trade level will continue to increase.After the world war Ⅱ, a lot of similar products trade occurred in many countries withsimilar level of economy, international trade theory has a new round of development, manyresearches on intra-industry trade appeared, on the basis of review on some relevant theories,this paper collected the bilateral trade data of China-Asean since the establishment of the freetrade area.and analyzed the intra-industry trade level between China and Asean by using theindex of intra-industry trade (G-L index),and then used econometric model to test theinfluence factors for the development of bilateral intra-industry trade,including levels ofeconomic development, per capita income difference, international direct investment andeconomic integration degree, the results show that the level of economic developmentdifferences and per capita income differences was negatively correlated with the developmentof intra-industry, international direct investment and economic level of integration was andpositive related with the development of intra-industry. In view of this conclusion,corresponding countermeasures was put forward in order to promote the development of intra-industry trade between China and Asean countries.
