Mobile phone’s life cycle is getting shorter than before as all kinds of wireless technologies were developed fast now, so their capacity to cost down is very important for Mobile phone R&D companies, it is one of fundamental competitive powers. Under trend in wireless technical development and background of worldwide economic or financial crisis, Chinese Mobile phone’s R&D companies have to be faced with more trouble and challenge: technologies updates fast; research cycle is shorter than before; user’s requirement of quality is getting higher and higher; process control and management is more difficult because of orders with both small amount and some models; profitability falls sharply because of both increase of wages and the stable pricing of main chipsets; competitive edge is getting weakness under RMB increases in value and foreign demand is declining. As a result, rivalry with other mobile phone R&D centers is very fierce, the marketing circumstance is very intense, more and more Chinese mobile phone R&D companies went bankrupt. For Mobile phone companies, how to face this kind of circumstance? They have to go new way of management and design new products with high quality and low cost on time besides improving their sales and marketing.The writer chooses Y enterprise which focuses on research and design mobile phone as sample to analyze and improve project management with lean concept. It analyzed five processes of project management (Initiating, Planning, Executing, Controlling and closing) and found out trouble and problem appeared during R&D process. It tried to find out the reason why these questions appeared and use technical under lean thinking to analyze them. Try to establish value stream maps for Y Company’s project management process. It showed ways how to use lean thinking to analyze value steam and eliminate waste during process of project management. It indicated the key trouble to slow the project and increase the cost during project management. As a result, it showed ways to eliminate something waste of project management in Y Mobile phone R&D Co. LTD and tried to improve and enhance its’ competitive edge.
