According to the history of developed countries, disparity in income is unavoidable between rural areas and cities. China, as a developing country, is not an exception to this rule. After its implementation of opening policy to the outside world, China has gained an enormous prosperity. With this prosperity came the increasing income disparity between rural area and cities. However, it is not universally the same degree in which cities differ from rural areas in their income level. Compared with eastern-central area, western area, which is an ethically minority populated region, has seen greater level of income disparity. It’s more apparent that in the same province, a region where multiple ethnicities live together has more serious income disparity than other non-minority populated regions. If the income disparity increases at an extreme rate, it not only negatively affect the success of building a small-scale prosperous society, but also brings instability to the harmonious environment in which many different ethnicities live together in China’s socialist social system. Therefore, this thesis paper takes Tibetan area in Qinghai Province as the sample, accurately study the degree to which income disparity exists in western minority populated region.
