Large Resources Enterprise Transformation Development Research In China

China is a country with extensive resources. These resource-based enterprises growing out of resource development take up an important role in the national economic system. Resource-based enterprises especially these large ones have become the major supply bases of basic energy and raw materials for a long time, which play a major part in the cause of modernization of our country. However, with the problems of environment and resources, the sustainable development for the society, economy and eco-environment has become a common concern. The old business mode of resource-based enterprises is lagging far behind the development of the times. These enterprises will experience a recession from their prosperity if not transformed. Therefore, exploring and research on transformation of resource-based enterprises to realize sustainable development is one of important problems to be solved in the process of industrial restructuring and upgrading, which have attracted much attention from the government, business community and theoretical circles.This paper based on the transformation of resource-based enterprises and the previous research in this field, analyzes the optimal selection of transformation mode in different resource-based enterprises by consulting the literature, case study and combining the successful experience of overseas representative resource-based enterprises. The China Coal Pingshuo Coal Co., Ltd. in Shanxi province, a typical resource-based enterprise with large scale in our country, is selected as a representative to be deeply analyzed on its way of transformation. Hopefully it will be of some help for the transformation of other large resource-based enterprises in our country.Based on previous studies, this paper makes a deep study on economic transition mode of resource-based enterprises and introduces the concept of "optimal model" for the first time, thinking that there is not a best mode of economic transition for the resource-based enterprises but only "optimal model" suitable for the enterprises development. When selecting the "optimal model", an enterprise should take the new industrialization road which is from low-tech to high-tech, from extensive development to intensive development, from self-development to cooperation development, from simple learning to innovative, from the developing non-renewable resources to renewable resources. Choosing a suitable and sustainable transformation way, an enterprises should not only consider its location factors, industrial policy, resource development stage, resource development scale and other actual situation, but also grasp the principle of local conditions, the times, active transformation, diversified developments and seeking external supports. In addition, no matter to choose what sort of transition models, an enterprise should focus on the following problems:try to develop non-resource-based industries; pay attention to enterprise reform and establish an effective management mechanism; closely combine with local characteristics when developing new industries; concern about technological innovation and staff training; focus on ecological and environmental protection; pay attentions to harmonious development of regional economy.However, this paper does not further elaborate the cost of the business transformation and the criteria of selecting the succeeding industry. Also it fails to obtain the latest data of some companies due to limited collection of information and lacks quantitative analysis in research methods. All these should be enriched and improved in the future.
