With constant changes in competition in the banking sector, competition among financial institutions is becoming fiercer. At present, it is an urgent issue for every commercial bank to explore ways to promote greater development for secondary branches in order to achieve striding progress of its head office.This thesis takes Bank of China HeZhou Branch at its research object. It offers detailed analysis on the bank’s general conditions, such as the circumstances under which the bank was established, the bank’s framework of structure, its outlets and customers, dominant business, profit-making capability, human resources, as well as its internal advantages and disadvantages. After fully analyzing its internal development conditions, the thesis, by applying PEST model and Michael Porter’s Five Forces Model, goes on to explore various external factors which influence its development, including political and legal conditions, economic environment, social circumstances, ethnical conditions and competitive environment. Then the thesis offers strategic measures for the bank based on SWOT analysis model.The thesis suggests that the bank, in accordance with its working guidelines of "Adjusting structure, Enlarging Scale, Preventing risks and Raising Standards", should continue to promote deposit and loan business, focus on developing intermediary business, greatly strengthen customer basis, make more efforts on construction of service channels, and improve corporate operation and management in an all-round way, so as to realize its prime goals of enhancing its competitiveness and capability for sustainable development. In this way, the bank strives to advancing into one of the medium-level secondary branches in Guangxi within the next3to5years and finally achieving its strategic goal of building the best local commercial bank.At last, the thesis points out that various strategic measures should be carried out to secure the realization of the above-mentioned goals, including optimization of organizational structure and strategic measures concerning product, marketing, resource allocation, risk management and corporate culture.
