Since the Reform and Opening Up, Chinese economy has been developing on a high speed, and urbanization process in China is gradually accelerating. First, this thesis introduced overseas and domestic research status. The second part reviews the legal evolution of urban demolition, and analyses it’s emergence, development and escalation along the time sequence. This part also studies the characteristics of urban demolition contradict in combination with features of Chinese social transitional period. In the third part, this thesis discusses the causes of urban demolition contradict from the angle of interest conflict, lack of effective interest intermediation system and the improper operations of local government. The local government which is driven by both political and economical interests tends to carry out urban demolition with passion, and is apt to abuse power to encroach on the relocation households’ lawful rights and interest when lack of efficient supervision. The relocation households have few channels to express their interests, and thus descend to the weak side. The local government and the relocation households are opposing related parties in urban demolition, between which there is no effective interest intermediation system. Besides, the local government behaves improperly, therefore the urban demolition contradicts intensified. The fourth part studies the solutions of urban demolition contradicts. The local governments should change their mind, promote administration according to law, and unblock the participation channels in system. The social organizations should be introduced to urban demolition benefit gambling, so that they can play the role of building a communication platform, mediating the interests, alleviating animosity, balancing bargaining strength. The local governments need to change their work style, cede power to social organization, and try to explore a feasible urban demolition pattern which is guided by local governments, comprised of joint participation of social organization and relocation households.
