Modern logistics industry needs mature urban logistics system to provide the security for its healthy development. As the key component of urban logistics network system, logistics node can accelerate the cluster of logistics industry; encourage the growth of third-party logistics company; meet the requirement of urban logistics demand; justify the rationalization of urban function land; and stimulate the expansion of local economy. Therefore, rational planning and construction of logistics nodes is very important. Nowadays, many cities in our country embark to build logistics node facilities in different scale and function. Whereas, during this construction boom process, some problems also appear that need us to put into notice, such as blindly pursuing large scale and comprehensive function, repetitive constructing, inefficient operating and managing, etc. Not only do these problems impede the urban logistics system development, but they cause the social resource wastes as well. Hence, a city should first understand its actual logistics demand and the explicit function and utility of different level and type of urban logistics node facilities, then to draw a scientific and rational design for strategic layout of these facilities. This research will help logistics nodes to fully exert their function in the urban logistics network system.Guiding by the system theory, this paper adopts the method that combines qualitative and quantitative technique, to deploy the strategic layout of urban logistics node, in the aim at optimizing the disposition and integration of logistics node resources, and improving the operating efficiency of the whole urban logistics system.Firstly, related concept and definition of urban logistics nodes is introduced. Secondly based on the economic theory, the hierarchical division of urban logistics node facilities is given from the qualitative point of view, and the various service function and radiation range among different level logistics nodes are also discussed. Thirdly, form the quantitative point of view, this paper utilizes variable weighting combined forecasting algorithm to predict the future urban logistics volume, and use the urban logistics nodes total scale calculating formula as well as the theory of quantitative relation between different level of logistics node facilities to define the proper number of logistics node facilities that a city should construct. Finally, Zhuhai city is taken as an empirical case to design the appropriate strategic layout of logistics node facilities base on the city’s logistics development level, the disposition of industry and transport infrastructure.
