With the development of information technology, the core business of enterprises is tied with information technology more and more closely, and business relies on information technology more intensely. So the enterprises invested a large number of capitals to build information system. However, information system did not play the efficacy to enhance the IT service level due to the lack of effective management. In recent years,IT service management attracts much attention. It is the effective tool to combine business and IT to help enterprise improve IT service level.ITIL(Information Technology Infrastructure Library)is the academic criterion of IT service management. It is the canonical methods summarized from the best IT service practices.Configuration management database(CMDB)is one of the core concepts of ITIL,which is closely related with all processes of ITIL.So it is the factor that should be firstly considered when an IT service management project is carried out. The success of a project is often determined by whether there is a successful CMDB. This paper constructs a scientific and logical CMDB model with universality and expansibility from the nature of configuration management database. The contents of the paper are organized as follows.Firstly,we introduce the framework of the ITIL briefly, and analyze the ten processes of ITIL and their inter-relationship.The configuration management process shows the importance of the configuration management database in the ITSM.Secondly, starting from the essence of configuration management database,we analyze the contents stored in the CMDB and the differences between CMDB and common database. We introduce the constructing principle of the CMDB from two aspects of data and process in detail. And we analyze the constructing principle of configuration model from CI structure、CI relationship、CI class and CI attribute in detail.Thirdly, according to the constructing principle of configuration model,we introduce a classification structure of CI and two representation methods---tree representation method and catalogue representation method. We design the configuration management database model in detail from nine modules according to the level one of classification of the CI.The CI attribute includes public attribute and private attribute. We store them in different places. We also store attributes and attribute values in different places. This design method makes the database have dynamic expansibility. The attributes and attribute values cannot be limited by the table structure of database. At last, for the situation that there are a mass of components and the distribution is complex in large-scale IT environment,we design a distributed configuration information collection model—multi-network domain data collection center model to collect configuration information, and introduce the structure of the model in detail. This collection model solves many problems, such as the great number and wide distribution of IT components. At the same time, this model also enhances the security of collecting data.We also describe the design and implementation of data collection system in detail.T he collection tool is Agent which can im prove the collection efficiency and flexibility. The CMDB model we designed can meet the needs of ITSM system of different service levels and supports the infinite division of CI,achieving the universality and expansibility really.Data collection system can monitor the configuration information accurately, which ensures that the configuration information stored in the CMDB are real-time and accuracy enough to achieve the synchronization. This model has great application value in building the ITSM system.
