Research On The Path Of China Geological Library Improving The Utilization

There are a large number of industrial professional libraries currently in existencein china. These professional libraries give play to the function of industrial total stackand documentation resources guarantee and service system. Even though people areliving in an age when digital and network information technology sees rapiddevelopment, the function of professional library, as one of storage and serviceorganizations playing a role of knowledge and information collection, storage, dataprocessing, cultural dissemination and recreation, still can not be ignored due to it’scharacters of documentation resources storage, particular service and targeted serviceobject. However, as a matter of fact, the state quo of professional libraries utilizationis unoptimistic, because of the restriction of new technology application, increasedcompetitive pressures, knowledge service skirmish and librarians with lower innerquality. Moreover, other reasons, such as library readers, book circulation and readers’recognition have a conflict with what roles the professional libraries play. Therefore,if the professional library aim to realize it’s existence value and improve it’s usagerate, it must bring forth new ideas on these aspects, including service concept, servicecontent, service measure, service mode, service object and service team. This meansthat stack resources of professional libraries must be abundant, the way to searchinformation must be convenient, the attitude for offering services for users must beproactive and means of services be innovative. All what they do can gratify readers’expectation.Started from studying the state quo of professional libraries’ utilization andcombining one of the representative cases, the National Geological Library of China,the thesis focuses to adopt the methods of document analysis, data statistics,questionnaire survey and comprehensive research to probe into readers’ utilization forprofessional libraries and analyze how professional libraries meet challenges andtackle problems in utilization at the information age. With the combination of readers’demand and some bottleneck problems in the development of professional libraries,some internal and external reasons for professional libraries’ problems are analyzedfrom the point of informatization influence, changes of users’ demand, capitalshortage, resources guarantee, librarian team and publicity campaign. In terms ofdrawing lessons from experience in management for domestic and overseasprofessional libraries, some relevant strategies and measures, from the aspects ofresource construction, service innovation, cooperative development and sharing, theapplication of technology, training classes offered for users, publicity campaign andguarantee condition, are also put forward in this thesis with the expectation ofsupplying some reference for the future development of professional libraries. Thesestrategies and measures will be of great importance to the research carried out toimprove usage rate of professional library, the declaration of responsibility andmission further explained by professional libraries, the adaptation to the newenvironment and severe pressure of day-to-day survival professional libraries face,and the efforts made for professional libraries to reform its operating ideas, adjustworking thoughts and enrich its functions in order to continuously meet new demandsin economic and social development. Professional libraries will enhance services andfurther promote its sound growth.
