The21st century is named for "her century" and "her era" by some people. Women appear in social production, social life and all areas this time. They show their talent, also perform more independence, subjectivity in their job, emotion and spirit. With the rise of female consciousness,"Media and Female" becomes the key field in the current Communication. In addition, Women are the main force of the daily consumption in the current wave of consumerism. Then, the Media pay close attention to them more and more. Therefore, how the Media report and construct the media images of this group are cared by many Communication scholars. In this paper, the above problems are solved based on the content analysis method and the theory of the cultural research, and are closely related to the covers of New Women as the research sample, which is the well-known female Metropolis Weekly in the west area.This thesis consists of five parts. The first part is the preface, mainly discuss about choosing reason of the topic, research background, research methods and research value and so on. The second part is to give a simple statement of the women’s metropolis newspaper from the new century, and prove the representative of New Women through its running progress, running idea and innovative management. The third part is to describe about the125samples. Statistics and analysis of the main indicator system about the media image construction of the cover female of the New Women. Such as the job, age, degree of education, area and so son. The forth part of this paper is to describe deeply about the city female images of the New Women. And do some comparative research between the cover female images and city women in real life, which is on the basis of combining the social survey data. Then, get the result that the cover female images of the New Women exist serious stereotyped image in the some aspects like job, cloth, temperament and so on. The fifth part is a comprehensive analysis of the cover female images of the New Women that is based on the theory of cultural research. And get the conclusion:in the era of consumerism, these cover female construct a standard image of the beauty of the female body, which is under male perspective. To many city women, this kind of image is "The beauty of tyranny"...
