The three-dimensional reconstruction is one of the hot technologies in the field of computer visualization, and its latest research results have been applied in various fields, such as three-dimensional recognition, digital cities, virtual reality, three-dimensional visualization of human body, agricultural and industrial visualization, etc..Three-dimensional reconstruction was designed to extract three-dimensional information from the two-dimensional image sequences or a series of point-cloud data, then reconstruct corresponding image of an object or objects in three-dimensional space after a series processing such as intergration, classification and so on.Three-dimensional reconstruction of medical images is one of the cross-sectional studies of computer visualization and biomedical engineering. It is an important application of computer graphics and image processing technology in biomedical engineering and there is a high value for its latest research results in diagnostic medicine, medical teaching, surgical navigation, radiotherapy planning, medical three-dimensional human body and plastic surgery. Especially in terms of medical diagnosis, medical image3D reconstruction provides part or overall3d images of the human body and a better show of the body shape and the spatial distribution of the lesion and its surrounding tissues. These assist doctors in obtaining accurate and reliable information to make a diagnosis. Further more,3d reconstruction of medical images provides a powerful data support for the future research and development of advanced medical surgical planning system. Therefore medical image3d reconstruction has a very high application value and practical significance.VTK(Visualization ToolKit)is one of the most widely used platform in the field of medical image visualization. VTK is an open-source, freely available software system for3D computer graphics, image processing and visualization. VTK supports a flexible and powerful programming. In addition, VTK has a high rate of code reuse. All of these make VTK become a good choice for medical image3D reconstruction. The three-dimensional medical image reconstruction method is generally divided into two parts:surface rendering and volume rendering.In this thesis, we analyze the surface rendering and volume rendering in depth and we design and realize the3d reconstruction systm of medical images based on VTK and MFC. The main points in this thesis are as follows:1.In this thesis, we introduce several commom methods to obtain medical images and we discuss the principle and features for each of them.2.We make an introduces for DICOM standard, including the structure and framework of the DICOM model.3.The basic techniques and the general process of3D reconstruction are disussed in this thesis. Also we introduce the concept in surface rendering of slice-based and voxel-based reconstruction and the optical model for volume rendering in detail.4.The further study of the surface rendering algorithms is named Marching Cubes algorithm. We analyze the basic principle and drawing steps of MC algorithm and point out the ambiguity and approximation problem. Then several solutions are provided to these problems. In order to solove the ambiguity problem, we also introduce Marching Tetrahedra algorithm.5.Based on VTK and MFC, we realize the3d reconstruction system of medical images. In this system, we use several commom methods to realize3D reconstruction of medical images. Also the system allows us to cut the3D images after reconstruction using a plane or a cube.
