Jiang Nan Jing Lue is one of the important works about anti-Japanese pirate in Ming dynasty.Zheng Ruozeng, a prominent military theoretician in Ming dynasty, whose most famous works—Chou Hai Tu Bian—is highly praised by generations of experts of coastal defense and anti-Japanese pirate. In fact, Jiang Nan Jing Lue is more comprehensive and penetrating on the anti-Japanese pirate theory and the coastal defense thoughts in comparison.Jiang Nan Jing Lue is rich in content, introduces the locations of four counties, Suzhou, Songjiang, Changzhou and Zhenjiang, the anti-Japanese pirate history and especially, the coastal defense thoughts of the author Zheng Ruozeng. It is organized in a geographical order and linear structure, map centered, while illustration and map complement each other. In the second year of Longqing, aiming at principal metacarpal and preparing for the exams, and with the hard work and the help of Lin Run et al, the book is compiled by Zheng and his son. There are three block-printed editions of Jiang Nan Jing Lue, Longqing, Wanli and Kangxi, and two codices of Wen yuange, Wen jinge, which reflect the general spreading process of the book. Lacking of the punctuation and collation version, basic works of collating and punctuating has been done to make the book logical coherent, content clear and to learn the anti-Japanese pirate situation and conclude the ideology of Zheng. Comparing the differences and similarities of the literature about anti-Japanese pirate of Ming and Qing dynasties with Jiang Nan Jing Lue, the status in the documents of the latter is more prominent.Jiang Nan Jing Lue records the situation of anti-Japanese pirate in Jiangnan region in Ming dynasty, through actively promoting of the life stories of front-line general, bravery sergeant, civilian freedom fighters, who resist Japanese pirate, also through the analysis of invading, all of these support the fact that Japanese pirate can overcome and build up people’s confidence to defeat the enemy. Zheng Ruozeng’s thoughts of keeping enemies outside, attention to three kinds of defense, global anti-Japanese pirate and abstention mark that more mature ideology, which resist Japanese pirate, has been formed in the end of Ming dynasty. In the late of Ming Dynasty, the ideology of the sea right resulted from the interaction of politics, economy and the military might of the enemy. Zheng Ruozeng advocated that strengthening the defence control of coastal islands and sandbank, and setting the Sentry patrol in the strategic location of the sea traffic can reinforce the control on the the sea right of the country. And what’s more, he combined marine economy with coast defense to form the ideology of the sea right in a relatively full sense of the term. However, he ideology of the sea right which had some Congenital deficiency was still in an embryonic stage. His opinions are widely different from the expanding open theory on sea power of Mahan. the sovereign introversive characteristic existed in Chinese ideology on the sea right from the budding stage.Jiang Nan Jing Lue has advanced that era, and also influenced by the age. But inevitably, it has its own weakness and compromise. Compared with Zheng Ruozeng’s other writings, the thoughts of Jiang Nan Jing Lue is more prominent in anti-Japanese pirate and coastal defense strategy. And it is also very important in the literature of anti-Japanese pirate in Ming and Qing dynasties. It’s not only inheriting and developing the early thought of anti-Japanese pirate, but also absorbing and referring to the mind of the same period. It also deeply influence the works of Ming and Qing dynasty in coastal defense and anti-Japanese pirate.
