Along with the rapid growth of the Internet, the interconnect devices for network connection are widely used. The interconnect devices have become one of the most essential components of the current network, and the evaluation of their performance has attracted more and more attention from researchers and developers. RFC2544is an international standard brought up by the RFC organization to evaluate and test the interconnect devices. To ensure the regular function of the network, the network test system must be used to improve its effectiveness and security. This thesis deeply analyzed today’s network performance test and system design, designed and implemented a multi-user network performance test system. At first, this thesis introduced the test parameters and methods defined by RFC2544, analyzed the two test structures in the standard, including their strong points and weak points, as well as the test conditions. This thesis deeply analyzed current studies about the test data stream model and forwarding model, which emulate the data flow to perform tests of interconnect devices. This thesis emulated the test procedure by OPNET with these models, and then proposed an extended network test solution based on emulation results. Secondly, this thesis deeply studied today’s network performance test systems design, designed and implemented the test system based on RFC2544, presented the detailed description of the architecture of the system and its functional modules. In the end, a throughout test for the whole network test system was presented, which indicated that the system functioned normally and satisfied the requirements of the design. This thesis has extended the functions of the network test systems by thread pool, making it possible for several users to run their tests by a single system at the same time. The extended test solution expanded the test methods described in standard RFC2544, which enabled a more comprehensive and objective evaluation of interconnect devices.
